The Great Orchestra of Holiday Help
Dear Friends,
On the behalf of Polish Community, we want to invite You to celebrate with us a real charity foundation's event which will take place on January 9th and 10th in Polish Community regions, called The Final of Great Orchestra of Holliday Help.
The Great Orchestra of Holiday Help (Wielka Orkiestra Swiatecznej Pomocy) is a real, charity foundation, that, according to its statute, as a main goal of operation has “activity within the field of healthcare, what is (i.a) saving people’s lives, especially children’s, and activity due to the health enhancing and, promotion of health and health prophylactics”.
The most known way of the Foundation activity is a whole-country-wide charity entertainment and media spectacle, called The Final of Great Orchestra of Holiday Help (Final Wielkiej Orkiestry Swiatecznej Pomocy ). The main element of the Final is “the great orchestra playing”, which means lots of musical events happening all over Poland and in many other countries. The income of the events is spent on realizing of the Foundation goals and aims. During the Great Final there are many other ways and forms of collecting goods and money – for the Foundation benefit. The most important is street collecting by thousands of volunteers. The other are auctions of items donated by celebrities and artists, auctions of special Golden Hearts.
In advance, all contributors receive, symbolic, Red Heart with white printed name of Foundation which is main logo for this event.
The whole money every year are spent on the goals related to the health protection, especially children’s health.

On this occasion we look for the DJs wanting to join the Action and perform in Select Club (Polish Community) during Saturday and Sunday (January 9th, January 10th ) Evening and Night. During these two days we are going to give as much music and great atmosphere as it is possible and collect as much money as the Residents would donate to especially created "boxes" under avatar's name: PolishCommunityWolontariusz Memo. This avatar will be official representative to whom account, all money will be collected, and then transferred into US$ and sent in form of money check to Foundation.
The aim of this year Final is saving the lives of children with oncological problems.

A Fundraiser for the Central Asia Institute
I stopped in at Trill Zapatero's Central Asia Institute (CAI) event Sunday evening held at the Untold Art Gallery. There are twenty artists and over sixty works of art on display and sale, all for the benefit of educating girls in the Pakistan/Afghanistan regions. CAI is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization with the mission to promote and support community-based education, especially for girls, in remote regions of Pakistan and Afghanistan. The art will be displayed indefinitely, so stop in enjoy the art and donate to this worthy cause. She also told me she has an incredible line of afghan inspired fashion, HIMALYALA and BOHO HOBO, some of which is on sale here as well.

Pixel to Pixel Foundation in Second Life
While attending the opening of Virtual Treeline on Tuesday evening, I was introduced to Jadyn Firehawk and we exchanged pleasantries while chatting about the art. She also shared with me a little information about her work in Second Life as founder of the Pixel To Pixel Foundation (P2P). Ms Firehawk passed along a note card with information (reprinted below) and asked me to stop by when I had an opportunity, to which I readily agreed. It was a little later in the evening before I had a chance to read the note and I then realized why her name was so familiar. I'd written a short piece here in Lane's List several weeks ago on her having won "First Place Novice" in the Frank Lloyd Wright Virtual Museum's Craftsman Home Build-Off 2009 contest.
Here's the informational note card from Jadyn about the foundation:
PIXEL TO PIXEL FOUNDATION: ABOUT US
CONTACT: Pixel Falconer (Director) or Jadyn Firehawk (Founder)
The Pixel To Pixel Foundation (P2P) was established in 2009 to enhance the Second Life experience for people living with disabilities.
Second Life is a lifeline to many people with disabilities. Some (such as those who suffer from severe depression) may live in social isolation, and SL keeps them connected with others in the outside world. Other people may have physically disabling conditions, and SL allows them the virtual experience of full mobility, and even gives them wings to fly.
The P2P Foundation, which exists only in SL, gives direct financial assistance in the form of weekly Linden-dollar stipends to people on disability -- that is, those who are supporting themselves solely on disability assistance program benefits. Participants can reside in any country, and their disability assistance can be either from their government or from a private disability insurance company.
Donations to the foundation go directly to recipients, hence the name, Pixel To Pixel (avatar to avatar). The amount of the stipend is $500 Lindens per week, which is equivalent to about US$2 per week in real life. This amount may seem trivial to someone who has regular income from a paying job, but for a person on disability who may have very little money to spare, it can make a real difference for their quality of life in SL. As one participant so succinctly put it, "two dollars for me means a loaf of bread for a week." The weekly stipend from P2P may enable a participant to rent an apartment or shop, for example, or take photographs or upload textures in SL.
Some donors give weekly (or monthy) and directly sponsor one or more participants. However, any and all donations are always gratefully accepted in the Donation Boxes located at any of the foundation offices, or, you may pay Pixel Falconer directly. Non-regular donations go into the Sponsor Fund, which supports the majority of participants in the program. We also welcome you to give of your time in helping to spread the word about the foundation. Occasionally, the P2P Foundation also gives discretionary grants for participants to start a business or pursue a major creative project in SL.
There are a few guidelines for participating, designed to ensure that the P2P program runs smoothly and that nobody abuses the system. These guidelines are available in a separate notecard, entitled "Participant Information."
Contact us if you would like more information on how to participate in the P2P program, or if you have any questions. Or, stop by the foundation offices for the other two information notecards.
Thank you for your interest in the Pixel To Pixel Foundation!

On Saturday, the 17th of October the owners of Callidora SIM in second life will kick off their annual benefit season for the American Cancer Society. A month ago, I wrote an article that appeared in the SL Newspaper about the brother and sister team, msw Tomorrow and Renfew Sperber, who are active in the annual "Relay for Life" as well as in raising money for the ACS. Ms Sperber sent me the line-up for the event on the 17th along with an e-mail where she told me that the donations were already coming in. Besides the information on the event concert she'd also told me, "that we've dedicated the two most popular rides at the Kleio Island Amusement Park to the ACS, the Spook House and the Alice House, by Atom Burma who is an incredible ride designer". Kleio Island is adjacent to Callidora.

Callidora Benefit Concert Acknowledgements
A few weeks ago I wrote a piece for the SL Newspaper titled "Brother and Sister Team Up in Second Life to Support RFL" and that they'd also teamed up to host a series of concerts that benefit the American Cancer Society. Renfew Sperber and her brother msw Tomorrow are both remarkable individuals and as a pair set an example for commitment to their cause and generosity of spirit. Renfew had passed along the following information as an acknowledgement of the contributions of their many friends in their efforts to raise awareness and money for the fight on cancer.

Manx Wharton only missed one concert in the 2009 season and has the distinction of playing more additional sets to cover last minute cancellations or extend the benefit than any other musician in the lineup
Other Avatars/Friends of Note: Nestra Careless -- Event manager for the benefits for 2008/early 2009 and sl mentor extraordinaire, Fushia Shepherd -- Event coordinator and co-host for benefits 2009 and a remarkable human being and friend, SherieAnn Thirty -- Friend and owner of the Gaslight brought us many new talents to backfill

Art Donations for PeaceFest 09 Auction
A group notice from SL resident and good friend Siri Vita greeted my arrival in world on Sunday afternoon. Ms Vita is one of several members of the team that is planning for "PeaceFest '09". This year's festival is scheduled for early August. PeaceFest '09 is "a global, interfaith, cross-cultural effort to create lasting peace through mobilizing support and learning for RL Peace organizations". Organizers are currently setting up works of art that will be auctioned during the festival. She is asking patrons and artists in Second Life for donations to the cause.
Proceeds from this year's festival will go to benefit the following RL organizations:
The Edith Benson Babies Home in South Africa
Amnesty International's work to end child soldiering
Peace Direct - the Escuela for peacebuilders, in Colombia, South Africa
She asks that any donated pieces be sent to her (Siri Vita). They will be part of the auction taking place at Cedar Island during the festival.
More information can be obtained on the PeaceFest '09 web site, including plans, schedule of events, how to donate and stories to share.
Diabetes Fund Raiser Campaign in Second Life
I wrote a piece that appeared in the SL Newspaper a few weeks ago about the Second Life group, Bid4aCure. Their campaign is an annual fund raising event in support of a cure for diabetes and it launched in early in June. Late on Sunday afternoon and shortly after the end of Sundays "Goods and Services" auction, the team happily announced that at today's event they'd raised a total of $L 674,227.00. The funds raised will be donated to the both the American Diabetes Association and Diabetes UK. With two weeks to go in the campaign the team is working toward its next two events scheduled for the 27th and 28th of June.
If you've not had an opportunity to donate, there is still time. Sponsors and kiosk locations can be found on the Bid4aCure web site. The kiosks are easy to spot as they're shaped like a hypodermic needle, symbolizing those diabetic's who are dependent on insulin injections.
